SMARCH starts with one survey, places participants in one queue, and forms matched teams for a guided 6-week programme. Here is how the process works from account creation to team invitation and next steps.

How SMARCH Works

SMARCH is designed to give people a clearer path than endless repeated applications. Instead of sending the same information into many disconnected systems, participants complete one structured survey and enter one queue for future team formation.

Here is the process step by step.


Step 1: Create an Account and Complete the Survey

The first step is simple: create a SMARCH account and complete the survey.

The survey goes beyond a standard CV. It helps us understand things like:

  • your interests and strengths,
  • the kind of work you want to move toward,
  • how you prefer to collaborate,
  • your availability and current situation.

This gives us a richer base for team matching than a title or keyword list alone.


Step 2: Enter the Queue

Once your survey is complete, you enter the SMARCH queue.

This matters because SMARCH does not work like a traditional job board. Instead of asking you to reapply for each separate opportunity, we keep your information in one structured system that can be reviewed when forming teams.

You should also receive confirmation that your survey was completed successfully.


Step 3: Matching and Review

After that, profiles are reviewed for possible team combinations. We are not only looking at technical background or formal experience. We also look at whether people may complement each other in a practical team setting.

That can include a mix of:

  • interests and direction,
  • working style,
  • availability,
  • skills that fit together across a group.

If a team member does not respond after several attempts, their profile may be marked inactive temporarily so the rest of the queue is not blocked. Step 5: Team Portal Access

Once a team is formed, participants move into the Team Portal. This is where the collaboration becomes more structured.

The Team Portal supports team activity with tools for:

  • meetings and coordination,
  • deliverables and progress tracking,
  • announcements and communication,
  • shared visibility on what the team is working on.

Instead of leaving people alone with a vague instruction to “work on something”, SMARCH provides an environment that helps teams stay organised.


Step 6: Guided 6-Week Programme

Teams then move through the guided 6-week programme. Each week is designed to help the group turn an early idea or direction into something more practical and grounded.

Depending on the team, that may include work on:

  • problem definition,
  • audience clarity,
  • concept shaping,
  • roles and ways of working,
  • early testing or traction,
  • next-step planning.

The programme is about guided collaboration and practical progress. It is not about forcing every team into the same outcome.


Step 7: After the Programme

After the first six weeks, different teams may move in different directions.

  • Some teams may continue building together.
  • Some may turn part of their work into a practical pilot or service.
  • Some participants may use what they built as evidence of capability for other paths.
  • In some cases, optional visibility to hiring partners can exist as a secondary route.
